House of Representatives,
Road safety remains a growing concern for many commuters in Kathmandu, particularly during the early morning hours when heavy vehicles frequently travel at excessive speeds. Speeding by overloaded trucks and pickup vehicles on urban roads poses significant risks to pedestrians, schoolchildren, cyclists, and other road users.
During Akasmik Samaya in the House of Representatives, I raised this issue after receiving concerns from citizens regarding dangerous speeding near the Ring Road. While acknowledging the important work of Nepal Police in strengthening traffic enforcement and public awareness, I called for increased monitoring and stricter enforcement of speed limits on high-risk routes to help prevent accidents and improve public safety.
Key Recommendations:
- Increase traffic monitoring and speed enforcement on high-risk urban roads, particularly during early morning hours.
- Strengthen enforcement against speeding and overloaded heavy vehicles.
- Identify and regularly monitor accident-prone routes within Kathmandu Valley.
- Continue public awareness campaigns on responsible driving and road safety.
- Enhance coordination among relevant authorities to improve road safety for all road users.
