Government Ministries,

Government ministries are often the primary source of public information, yet many official social media platforms remain fragmented, outdated, and inconsistently managed. A baseline review found duplicate ministry pages, unofficial accounts using ministry names, outdated content, and the absence of standard procedures for managing official social media platforms. In many cases, access to ministry accounts depended on individual officers, affecting continuity and timely public communication.

To address these challenges, I have been advocating for stronger digital governance across government institutions, including verified official social media accounts, standard operating procedures for social media management, and the effective use of digital platforms to communicate with citizens. Improving digital communication is essential to making government information more accessible, transparent, and responsive to the public.

Key Recommendations:

  1. Verify the official social media accounts of all government ministries.
  2. Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managing government digital platforms.
  3. Strengthen institutional ownership of official accounts rather than relying on individual officers.
  4. Use each digital platform strategically to reach different audiences with timely and accessible public information.
  5. Promote citizen-centred digital communication through clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand content.
